A quote for our times:

“It amounts to a diseased attitude - a conditioned reflex that shunts aside the independence of your minds whenever it is a question of opposing authority.”

Movies and SciFi Seiries06 Feb 2009 12:58 pm

I am a BIG fan of Serenity, though I found it after it had already run out. A friend introduced me to the movie and I liked it so much that I bought and watched the whole TV series. On days it appears, I always try to watch if I can. But I just found it on HULU!

If you go to the Firefly Page on Hulu you’ll find the full episodes viewable online for free! You get embedded commercials, but I’ll put up with them for the chance to watch the episodes whenever and wherever I am.

The site allows you to embed videos in your own web site or blog, just to see how it works, here is the first episode for anyone who’d like to see it:

I’ve slowly been looking through Hulu and am impressed with what I can find. Obviously, there are LOTS of holes in the content, but it’s interesting that they have things I want but can’t find elsewhere. Quality is good and there haven’t been any stutters on my downloads, but performance there will depend on how fast your Internet connection is. Remember too that you are just one of many people using the bandwidth of the Internet, so even with a fast connection, at times delivery of a video like this will be choppy.

All in all though, I’m liking what I see.

General Notes05 Feb 2009 11:35 am

We’re in the process of packing and moving right now (I expect to actually move in about a week), so while I’ll try to post some updates during that time, problems with Internet access and such will likely cause difficulty getting online. I’ll be picking up again for sure once we’re settled in our new location.

“The sum of human knowing is beyond any one man; any thousand men.”

Isaac Asimov, Foundation, Bantam Dell, 2004, p37.

Quotes02 Feb 2009 02:37 pm

“Q. You do not consider your statement a disloyal one?
“A. No, sir. Scientific truth is beyond loyalty and disloyalty
“Q. You are sure that your statement represents scientific truth?
“A. I am.

“Q. Can you prove that the mathematics is valid?
“A. Only to another mathematician.
“Q. (with a smile) Your claim is then that your truth is of so esoteric a nature that it is beyond the understanding of a plain man. It seems to me that truth should be clearer than that, less mysterious, more open to the mind.
“A. It presents no difficulties to some minds. The physics of energy transfer, which we know as thermodynamics, has been clear and true through all the history of man …, yet there may be people present who would find it impossible to design a power engine. People of high intelligence, too. …”

Isaac Asimov, Foundation, Bantam Dell, 2004, p32.

Quotes01 Feb 2009 02:30 pm

Isaac Asimov, Foundation, Bantam Dell, 2004, p6.
